Starting the New Year’s refreshed and regenerated is the perfect beginning to a good year! Having your Botox and fillers done regularly has certainly given you the boost you needed to keep your desired look! But have you complemented it enough with your skin regimen?

Most patients think that just the use of these anti-ageing treatments are enough to keep a flawless and glowing skin. However, that is usually only half of the story!

There are many limitations in using Botox senselessly. That’s something most practitioners don’t talk about with their patients. I always assess patient’s needs and how this will affect them in the long run. I therefore recommend them to follow certain skin routines instead of solely relying on such treatments.

The increased use of Botox over time can cause muscle atrophy, which is the weakening and shrinking of muscles within the injected area. If Botox is injected very regularly over periods of time without any relaxation time, Botox makes muscles atrophy due to a lack of its use. This doesn’t affect your entire face, and in most cases is not inherently bad to the patient, but side effects can occur over time, such as a frozen look!

It is also very common than people don’t know the long term effects of facial fillers. Facial fillers are a great gateway for rejuvenation and restoring a youthful look, but overtime, fillers stretch and weigh your skin down. This is the case for patients that don’t balance the use of fillers with less invasive resources, such as a healthy skin regimen or a skin peel, instead of having fillers done excessively.

Most people oversee fillers, and this can accelerate the aging process if it is not done with the correct medical advice. When fillers are absorbed and dissolved in the skin, they require more fillers to be done over time to stay inflated. Some patients have the problem of over inflation as they keep injecting in the area, giving it a less natural look.

This is why I take before and after pictures of my patients, as well as ask for their previous history with anti-ageing treatments. This allows me to make an informed analysis on what treatments my patients need, and how they can be complemented with an adequate skin care regimen and routine.

It is needless to say that Botox and Fillers are a great way to achieve a youthful and rejuvenated look, but it is important to have a balanced intake of these treatments, rather than apply them without consideration of long terms effects.
