HAIR LOSS TREATMENT

Hair loss can affect your scalp or your entire body. It can be the result of hormonal changes, medical conditions, or medication effects, as well as hereditary. Anyone can lose their hair, but baldness is more common in men.

About 85% of men will see their hair thin by the age of 50. Some men start losing theirs even before they turn 21 years old.

WHAT ARE THE MAIN CAUSE OF HAIR LOSS?

Among the main reasons for male-female hair loss is genetics and family history, as well as ageing. Research has shown that male hair loss is associated with male sex hormones called androgens. Androgens have many functions, including the regulation of hair growth. Every hair in your head has a growth cycle.

CAN THE HAIR GROW BACK AFTER IT IS GONE?

It is unlikely, but not impossible. Everything depends on certain conditions. If a follicle has closed, disappeared, left scars, or has not produced new hair in years, then a new hair will not grow.

On the other hand, if the follicle is still intact, yes, it is possible to regrow the hair. It is even possible to improve the health of existing thin hair.

WHAT WORKS FOR HAIR LOSS?

Among the existing effective solutions, Minoxidil (Rogaine) 5% is the only topical medicine approved by the health authorities when it comes to the treatment of baldness in women. The foam treatment, once a day, promotes hair regrowth in 81% of women. Minoxidil is a treatment that works by prolonging the hair growth phase.

This solution indeed gives more time to the hair to push to their full density. In men, finasteride (Propecia) is the only treatment approved by the health authorities. This treatment inhibits an enzyme that converts testosterone into DHT, or dihydrotestosterone. This hormone is the cause of baldness in men, and unlike Minoxidil, this treatment can help the hair to regrow while preventing its fall.

However, the use of these topical medicines has a disadvantage. Some patients experience side effects such as; dizziness, tiredness, drowsiness, temporary edema, loss of sexual libido, etc. It is where PRP comes in, with many patients preferring it since it is risk-free!

PRP TREATMENT FOR HAIR LOSS: EFFECTIVE SOLUTION FOR MEN AND WOMEN!

Medicine today offers different possibilities and techniques for hair recovery. PRP Hair Loss uses active growth factors in platelet-rich plasma to stimulate regrowth by acting directly on hair follicle stem cells.

THE PRP METHOD

In the blood, we have three types of cells: red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets that bathe in the plasma. Here, only platelets are interesting.

In a blood test, it is easy to separate these elements to obtain the plasma alone, enriched in platelets. These contain growth factors that can revitalize or even regenerate tissues. In this case, the hair follicles can be awakened when stimulated by the injection of platelet growth factors.

CONDUCT OF THE SESSION

A blood test is conducted, which will be centrifuged to separate the different blood components and recover the platelet-rich plasma. PRP is a product from your organization. It is, therefore 100% biocompatible and carries no risk of allergy or rejection.

It is injected into the scalp with a thin needle. Platelets are living cells that will recreate tissue where they are injected. They contain growth factors that “wake up” stem cells from hair follicles and encourage them to make new hair. The treatment consists of four sessions at fifteen days intervals. Then you will have to do a maintenance session a year. The session lasts about thirty minutes.

SATISFACTORY RESULTS

After the first session, the hair already has a brighter, silky, and thicker feel. Following the second, there is a clear decrease in hair loss. After the third session, you notice the regrowth of hair. To boost the results of PRP injections, you can combine the treatment with hair supplements and the Derma Roller, for example.

VERY LITTLE RISK

Some redness is always possible in the hours that follow. Since platelet extracts come from your own body, the product is 100% biocompatible: the risk of intolerance is minimal. However, it is better to tell your doctor if you have a lot of allergies. And for the pains? Patients have sometimes described PRP treatments for hair loss without local anesthesia as uncomfortable or even painful. If you prefer, local anesthesia can be done to ease the procedure.

HOW MUCH DOES PRP COST?

When choosing a clinic and practitioner to get your PRP done, you need to understand why there are so many price options and fluctuations on the market. There are PRP and PRP. It means that the quality of your PRP treatment can vary, depending on where you go.  It is based on the machine that practitioners use in their practice to conduct the sessions. When the blood is introduced into the centrifuge to separate the different blood components and recover the platelet-rich plasma, different platelet concentration levels are achieved depending on the machine they have.

At theLondonFacialCare, I use the latest machine on the market for PRP. The Arthrex Angel System can achieve the maximum platelet concentration of up to 18 times baseline, with leukocyte concentrations. It’s the only PRP centrifuge machine that has an automated system with 3-sensor technology.  Compared to other PRP machines that only achieve platelet concentration levels of 4 to 5 times baseline, the Arthrex Angel System is much more powerful and, therefore, more expensive.

The less potent PRP centrifuges are a great way to achieve beautification for thin hair but will be ineffective for hair loss treatment.  It is why some PRP treatments on the market will cost £500, while the most effective and appropriate PRP treatments cost £1800. It is important to note that using a more potent centrifuge like the Anthrex Angel System will give you a better chance to achieve your desired results in the first three sessions.

PRP AND THE ACELL MATRIX

Also, Prices on the market don’t include essential boosts that you need to get when undergoing a PRP treatment.

When recommending PRP treatment to my patients, I also recommend a complementary therapy called ACell Matrix. Using both treatments together is essential in boosting the results of PRP.

The ACell Matrix is an ECM (acellular Extracellular Matrix). It is an entirely absorbable protein tissue that has many regenerative properties. This ECM is essential in producing new blood vessel formation and reproducing cell types in the area of concern. Therefore, when combined with PRP, it offers maximum potency to achieve the results desired by the patient.

Lastly, but not least, it is also essential to have the right nutrients and vitamins in conjunction with your PRP plan. Want to know about this in more detail? Check our article here on all the nutrients and vitamins that your hair needs to maintain it beautiful and shiny!
