What is a thread lift?

A thread lift is a minimally invasive alternative to a surgical facelift that uses fine threads to support the skin from within, restoring your natural youthful beauty.

It has many significant benefits in comparison to a full surgical facelift. As it is not as invasive as surgery, it is much less expensive, has a much faster recovery time yet still produces impressive results.

Am I eligible for a thread lift?

Everyone is ‘eligible’ for a thread lift but an experienced clinician will need to carry out assessment in an initial consultation.

This meeting serves to understand whether a thread lift is the best choice for you and your desired results.

Thread lifts tend to work best with those who have mild to moderate facial skin changes. There may be the option to use different types of threads in conjunction with other interventions to give the best look possible.

Again, as the skin is not disturbed to the same extent as surgery, most of the associated risks are removed.

Thread lifts are not considered a risky procedure.

As with any medical treatment, it is not completely without risk. These minor risks are always exacerbated if choosing an inexperienced clinician.

Risks include discomfort, bruising, tenderness and redness.

Poor placement of threads can lead to a feeling of tension, bulging or puckering at the site of thread insertion.

Infection and allergic reactions are rare but should be known as possible by patients.

Signs include:

Rash

Difficulty breathing

Fever

Headache

Swelling that lasts for more than a few hours

Discharge from insertion sites

How long will a thread lift last?

How long will a thread lift last?

A thread lift will naturally last for less time than a traditional surgical face lift. It will however last longer than implied by the dissolving of the threads.

Due to the threads activating collagen production along their length, they restore the fine supporting structure of the skin. This collagen goes on to maintain a youthful appearance for many months after the threads have been reabsorbed by the body.

What are the potential PDO thread lift complications?

What are the potential PDO thread lift complications?

What are the potential PDO thread lift complications?

PDO thread lifts have a much lower risk of complications than facelift surgeries. There’s less risk of scarring, severe bruising, or bleeding when performed by a trained professional.

Some of the minor complications occur in 10-15 percent of procedures but are minor and reversible. This includes minor discomfort immediately after the procedure which makes up the bulk of the complications reported.

Below are some other potential complications:

  • visible sutures
  • salivary gland injury
  • accumulation of blood (hematoma)
  • infection
  • snapping of threads
  • Minor bruise
  • dimpling
  • hair loss
  • inflammation
  • pain

The authors of a 2019 study found that a PDO thread lift caused immediate improvements in skin sagging after the procedure. However, there was a decline in results 6 months later. Improvements were no longer apparent after 1 year.

In a study published in the Aesthetic Surgery Journal, a surgeon with 16 years of thread lift experience says he has seen results last anywhere from 1 to 9 years. Younger people tend to have results that last 3 to 4 years. Older people with poor skin volume or elasticity tend to only see benefits for 1 to 2 years.

It’s always a good idea to give your face the rest it deserves after a procedure like this. Get plenty of sleep and a light diet for two days. If your doctor gives you any other tips for recovery, take them seriously in order to ensure the best possible outcome.

The good news is that for many patients, that downtime is much less than a week. In fact, the average resume-work time is 24 hours.

So you’ll be able to return to work or exercise as desired following treatment, but you should also follow your doctor’s post-treatment recommendations, such as avoiding strenuous activity for a few days.

Do combined treatments yield the best results?

Do combined treatments yield the best results?

It is always a good thing to appraise different options for solving problems.

Facial treatments are no different, considering the benefits of using a combination of treatments such as PDO threads, botox and fillers. When used together, it can deliver you the best results.

Bear in mind, combining options should be considered only after consultation with a professional, such as at our clinic with Dr.Fern. However, combined therapies can be especially effective for anti-aging purposes.

Botox injections, used in the treatment of crow’s feet and frown lines, are highly effective in maintaining a youthful appearance, albeit limited in comparison to threads alone.

Furthermore, filling products such as Restylane, Juvéderm, and Radiesse make a great addition to fill fine lines. The treatments do not require anesthesia and take no longer than three hours to complete. The combined use of face-tightening PDO threads and rejuvenating injections provides greater results than either treatment on its own, making it an interesting choice for facial rejuvenation.

The combination of botox and PDO threads is widely used after surgery where a substantial correction is needed. The combination of the two techniques gives a much higher result than each alone.

Our London Facial Care clinic leverages Dr.Fern’s unique expertise with high-precision instruments, advanced technology, and long history of happy patients, so you can get the best treatment with confidence.

Situated in our modern, private practice in the center of London, we are regulated by the CQC (Care Quality Commission) which confirms our work is of the highest standard, providing safe and effective care all year round.
